Pop Sur Réal’s second album “Eko” was made as an expression of love and admiration for shoegaze and dream pop. This album features drums and amazing vocal performances (from our very own Ozan Çam) and whole lot of Guitars and bass to fill the Sonic space (from Sinan). As much as there has been a considerable change of sound in the album we have tried keep in touch with our experimental roots on two, almost brutally, experimental tracks entitled Bukimina and Disuko. The two experimental tracks were recorded using a Volca drum machine, a homemade noise instrument and several guitar pedal which would create the dreamy synth sounds using feedback and looping. All of the tracks were initially written by Sinan and, the ones with lyrics, were developed through several jam session with Ozan in which he would play the drums and contribute with his wast knowledge of the genre. As an outcome of these jam sessions the shoegazy, yet sligthly experimental tracks were produced and were afterwards ameliorated by the amazing lyrical content and vocal performances of Ozan. To write, produce, record and mix this album was definitely a way of controlling the entire creative process and making sure all the steps in the production were able to capture our raw feelings of dreaminess filled with some darkness with a whole bunch of room to spare for experimentation. I think we could easily say that this album was our projection of what the shoegaze can be, in the year 2021.
